A visit to the ancient silk workshop is a unique and fascinating experience.
Since 1849 in these Seterie (silk factory) they have been weaving by hand on ancient wooden looms the marvellous smooth velvets in 100% silk. To this day it is still one of the last weaving mills in the world still in activity to produce true Genoese smooth velvet.
Along one of the most spectacular stretches of the Ligurian coast, but a little removed from the most famous resorts on the Riviera, Zoagli offers its sober and discreet elegance. It is a peaceful place, easy to fall in love with.
Its inhabitants have been navigators, farmers and then weavers for centuries, capable of creating precious weaves of silk threads to make extraordinary flowered damasks or smooth, textured velvets.
Legend has it that the first people from Zoagli to weave were the veterans of the First Crusade, but the real production actually began in the 16th century, when the art of weaving developed to such an extent that Zoagli, together with Genoa, became one of the largest producers in the world.
Even today, alongside manual weaving, special silks for clothing and furnishings are created on mechanical looms, true masterpieces of taste and elegance.
The visit to the old weaving mill lasts about 1h30′ and can be combined with a visit to the showroom, about 1 km away.
Possibility of an aperitif with a magnificent view of the Gulf of Portofino at the end of the activity.
