Located in the eastern part of Portofino Coast, the Petronio Valley territory consists of four municipalities: Sestri Levante and Moneglia on the coast, Casarza Ligure and Castiglione Chiavarese in the hinterland.
Since the ancient times Petronio Valley was known for its mining activity, while during Longobardic age Saint Columbanus’ monks of Bobbio developed agriculture and the commerce towards the Po valley.
The area of the Bracco Pass is very interesting under an archaeological point of view, with the excavates of Monte San Nicolao, a Roman complex with church and hospital used until late Middle Ages.
The territory is both sweet and harsh, encompassing a wide range of landscapes and diverse types of vegetation which grow on the higher parts above and on the areas bordering on the sea.
