Adrian V, who was pope for a short period in 1276, and Innocent IV, whose pontificate lasted from 1243 until 1254, were born in Lavagna.
From the beach of Lavagna, the French poet Paul Valéry described a “leudo”, a typical ship used for the trade of black slate in the Mediterranean Sea, while Lord George Byron, English poet of 19th century, was the first to plant the sea lily along the beautiful beach of Cavi.
The Italian painter Gaetano Previati, attached to the Divisionism style, lived in Lavagna his last years.
